Stunning nature
Located in the heart of Northeast Iceland, about 105 kilometres (65 miles) south of the Arctic Circle, Lake Mývatn with its unique nature and rich birdlife is one of Europe's greatest natural treasures. The Diamond Circle travels through Mývatn area and includes many of the country's must see.
Our beautiful nature, perfect location and endless activity possibilities make Mývatn area the perfect multiday-stop and we recommend staying 4-7 days. Besides all the wonders of Mývatn, it is easy to get to Húsavík, the whale waching capital of Iceland, Akureyri, Ásbyrgi canyon, Dettifoss waterfall, Goðafoss waterfall, Aldeyjarfoss waterfall and even into the highlands, to the beautiful Askja caldera.

A designated nature reserve, Lake Myvatn is an area of fragile beauty where tourist services have been developed in such a way as to cause as little disruption as possible to what is a unique and highly delicate ecosystem. That's why we encourage all our guests to treat the nature with respect, and leave nothing behind but footsteps - on marked paths.
Drawing on a centuries-old tradition, the tastefully designed complex offers bathers a completely natural experience that begins with a relaxing dip amidst clouds of steam rising up from a fissure deep in the Earth´s surface, and ends with a luxurious swim in a pool of geothermal water drawn from depths of up to 2.500 metres.
Despite its northerly location, the region enjoys a temperate climate, and the long summer days when darkness never comes can be surprisingly warm.
As summer merges into autumn, the landscape becomes a panoramic patchwork dotted with shades of gold and brown, while winter brings its own tapestry of snow, sparkling frosts, and frequent opportunities to enjoy the unforgettable splendor of the Northern Lights. Can you imagine anything more perfect than lying in silky-smooth geothermal water, gazing up to the sky where the Northern Lights perform their breathtaking dance?
